Naming of Road

Last modified: November 2, 2009 - 9:17 PM

Council names and renames roads, when required, from time to time. This is done for roads which do not have an official name, or which may have a generic name, or a name which is no longer appropriate. The procedure involves advertising in the local press and advising landholders and residents along the road. Comments and/or objections are considered at the next Council meeting.

If adopted, the name will be advertised and gazetted (in the NSW Government Gazette). If the name is not adopted then a new proposed name will be advertised and the procedure will repeat.

Others to be consulted and advised in the process are:

- NSW Land and Property Information (including the Geographical Names Board)

- Australia Post.

- NSW Ambulance

Any roads being named will also be advertised here.
